Some info about the
STONEY NATION ( Alberta, Canada) :

stoney.jpg (12759 bytes)

The  Stoney Nation, comprising the Morley, Big Horn and Eden Valley reserves, is
made up of three Nakoda Bands ( meaning the People) recognized at the signing of Treaty
No. 7 in 1877. They are the Bearspaw, Chiniki, and Wesley Bands.

The original reserve was 109 square miles located   "in the vicinity of Morleyville" in the Bow River Valley between Kananaskis and Ghost Rivers. As descendents of the great Sioux Nations, the Stoney Tribe today prefer to conduct conversation and and tribal business in the Siouan mother tongue. In recognition of the continued use of the Stoney
language, many geographical names are taken from the language such as "Wapta" meaning river.

The main Stoney reserve is located along the Trans Canada Highway #1, midway between
Calgary and Banff. Morley townsite is situated beside the Bow River.
